Asamoah Gyan’s Penalty Miss Was Like A Goal For Me – Suarez

The Black Stars, who lost to Uruguay in 2010 on penalties, had a chance to become the first African side to advance past the quarterfinals of a World Cup.

Suarez’s use of his hand to block Dominic Adiyiah’s goal-bound header in the closing seconds of extra time gave Ghana a penalty, which added insult to injury.

However, Luis Suarez of Uruguay has admitted that he exclaimed “Goal!” in delight when Asamoah Gyan missed his key penalty during the quarterfinal match of the 2010 World Cup.

When Gyan missed, the seasoned striker claimed he was sad since he had been dismissed but instantly felt ecstatic because it appeared Uruguay had scored.

Suarez was dismissed for his unsportsmanlike behavior, and Ghana was given a penalty, but Asamoah Gyan failed to convert.

At the end of the game, Uruguay defeated Ghana 4-2 on penalties to go to the World Cup semifinal.

Suarez has been demonized by Ghanaians and other Africans for his behavior for the past 12 years since that game in South Africa.

Although Gyan’s miss seemed like a goal, the Uruguayan forward maintains that his red card was justified in his book, “Crossing the Line.”
