Teacher’s Strike: NSPs to Assist in Teaching and Learning – Kwasi Kwarteng

The Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Education, Kwasi Kwarteng says National Service Personnel as part of their contingency plan have been deployed to help ease the effect of the strike on student. The help he believes, in collaboration with the various Directors of Education will aid in the smooth running of teaching and learning in the classrooms.
He said in a brief engagement, reported by joy fm “the contingency plan I am aware the national service personnel are at post and are helping together in collaboration with the directors of education both at the regional and district levels”.
This comes after striking teachers refused to go back to the classrooms to teach since the demand for a 20% of their salaries as Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) to cushion them from the current economic hardship has not been met.
The strike action has however affected many students especially the final year students who in interviews expressed their frustrations with today being the third of not being in the classroom.
Kwasi Kwarteng further assured the various teacher union groups to stay put as their concerns are being worked on.
He added “….but we hope as soon as possible, we are able to address the concerns that have been raised by our teacher unions so that we get things back to normal”
He finally appealed to the various unions to soften their stands and have a considerate position ahead of what any future engagement that will arise.
