Sad how girls are prostituting themselves due to greed – 5Five rapper Papi

Rapper Papi, half of the Ghanaian Hiplife duo 5Five, has bemoaned the slay queen phenomenon. 

In an interview granted to Accra-based Hitz FM, Papi noted how a lot of girls have become sex workers to gain financial favours simply to keep up appearances.

“Plenty girls finish school but them dey house, excuse me to say, dey do ashawo [prostitution].”

To the ‘Bossu Kena’ hitmaker, impressionable girls are under the influence of “those big girls, those slays queens” who are “role models they look up to and they come and sit there [on social media] and make it look like [life is all about luxury] because they are changing clothes everyday, the young ones also want to change clothes everyday and if you’ll not work but want to change clothes everyday, what would you have to do? You’ll do ashawo [sex work] at home.” 

The rapper, who since 2020 has become a solo music act, added the slay queens “are doing [sleeping with] big men and they make it look like they are working hard.”

“What you dey work? What work are you doing that we can’t also do to make money? Make them show we or?” he challenged. 

“Things are going wrong and it’s sad. It’s sad. What the girls, the younger ones, do for money now is crazy,” he bemoaned. “Nice girls o and they’ve become greedy.”

The ‘Move Back’ hitmaker further charged influential social media users to stop creating an impression that life is easy and legitimate hard work to earn money is unnecessary. 

Questioned about his experience, Papi remarked, “I love women so definitely I will experience some.” 

The term ‘slay queen’ is derogatory and is generally used for a woman who is seen as beautiful but unintelligent; she is usually active on social media where she portrays a lavish lifestyle meanwhile, she funds said lifestyle by offering sex for money.
