 Burna Boy hits No. 1 spot on U.S. Billboard charts for the first time

Grammy-winner, Damini Ogulu better known as Burna Boy, has made career history by rising to the top spot on U.S. Billboard chart.

The singer’s hit song, Last Last peaked for the first time on U.S. Afrobeats Billboard charts on July 16, 2022. Last Last is a single off Burna Boy’s sixth studio album, Love, Damini, which was released on his birthday, 2nd of July.

Billboard broke the news of the African Giant’s feat its site, as it noted that the single is the fifth leader on the newly created Afrobeats chart.

Burna Boy’s “Last Last” advanced from No. 3 to No. 1 on Tuesday, beating Tems, Wizkid and Fireboy DML respectively.

Similarly, content creator turned singer, Carter Efe also achieved a historic feat with his tribute song to Wizkid titled’ Machala. The single featuring Berri Tiga has officially debuted on the US Billboard Afrobeats Charts.

Efe, who recently announced a switch from comedy to music, reacted to the achievement via his Twitter page with a screenshot of the Billboard Chart.

He released Machala on the 29th of July, and it debuted at the 14th position of 50 on the afrobeat charts, alongside songs by top stars like Burna Boy, Davido, Rema and his idol Wizkid.

Berri Tiga also took to his social media page to share his excitement while thanking fans for the support.

Billboard, in partnership with Afro Nation, launched the first-ever United States chart for Afrobeats music in March 2022.

Despite the massive rave and positive reviews the song has been getting , Wizkid is yet to acknowlege his tribute song.
