Arsenal Captain Breaks Silence on How He Tried to Stop Erling Haaland From Joining Man City

Newly-appointed Arsenal skipper Martin Odegaard has revealed how he tried to convince Erling Haaland to join him in north London. Odegaard, who was announced as the substantive captain of Arsenal for the upcoming season after the exit of Alexander Lacazette, shed light on his efforts to lure his Norwegian teammate to ditch Man City for Arsenal.

However, his efforts proved fruitless as the prolific striker, who notched 61 goals in 65 Bundesliga matches, chose the Cityzens ahead of the Gunners.

Discussing the impact Haaland will have on the Premier League, Odegaard divulged how he tried to interfere in Man City’s attempts at signing the former Dortmund forward.

“We speak almost every day, we have a group on Snapchat with some of the guys from the team so we speak there a lot,” Odegaard told talkSPORT.com. “He’s a great guy, great player and I think unfortunately for us he will be a great signing for Manchester City! For sure he will score some goals.

“I wish him all the best except for when we play them. It will be fun to see him in England. “When all the Arsenal fans were posting pictures of him and me I would send it to him. I tried but unfortunately, it wasn’t enough… he just laughed.”
