Police Officers allegedly arrested for stealing at the abandoned Saglemi Affordable Housing Project.

“ Ok so they are to protect the affordable housing project or prevent people from stealing.
They were brought there cos people were stealing the doors,glasses and other items from the building,this afternoon between the hours of 3-4 an eye witness from his farm saw a rhino truck with high speed rushed to one of the buildings then later saw 4 armed police rushed to the place took of their uniforms and started parking tiles into the truck,so he then quickly called some guys from the town to also witnessed what he saw
So according to the guy,the other guys came and they approached them whilst others called for a police backup,then they were taken to Tsopoli police station or the local station before transferring them to the district station at Prampram”
In May 2021, A former consultant for the project Dr Kaminta Baizie revealed that materials and equipment valued at about $7million dollars have been stolen from the project site.
According to him to theft took place when the construction company abandoned the site and left behind some of its materials and equipment.
In June 2021, The Police in Ashaiman in the Tema Regional Command arrested a Procurement Officer who allegedly stole equipment and materials being used for the construction
A scrap dealer who was receiving the stolen items totaling GH¢444.493.85 was also nabbed.
The case triggered police investigation after Sylvanus Kwaku Attivor, the Procurement Officer of Oasis Construction Limited which was the Brazilian company building the houses, reported the scrap dealer, identified as Ahmed Issah, to the police for stealing his ‘goods’.
The police then traced and recovered all of the stolen ‘goods’ except a forklift and the serviceable tower light from people the scrap dealer sold the ‘goods’ to.
Attivor, 54, filed the complaint at the police station because he claimed Issah shortchanged him in the course of the transaction.
State properties including 48 seater Howo bus valued at GH¢320,000, a forklift estimated at GH¢50,000, tower light valued at GH¢5,000, 23 pieces of big size wooden doors valued at GH¢11,192.36 and 20 pieces of window frames valued GH¢16.089.00 were stolen.
Other stolen items included four pieces of big size window frames valued at GH¢6,252.36, one medium lorry tyre valued at GH¢300.00, one network decoder valued at GH¢160.00, six hydraulic pipes valued at GH¢900.00, one steering gear and three car rods all valued at GH¢1,200.00, one weeding cutter valued at GH¢1,200.00, five door controls valued at GH¢500.00, three tanker engines valued at GH¢1,500 and green water hose valued at GH¢400.00, all totaling GH¢444.493.85.
